Director of Cultivation – Illinois, Missouri and/or Michigan (Hybrid/Onsite Required)

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Director of Cultivation to oversee and optimize cultivation operations across facilities. This role requires a strategic leader with deep expertise in greenhouse cultivation and a proven track record of scaling production while maintaining quality and compliance.

The Director of Cultivation will report to executive leadership and will lead a large, skilled team, providing direct oversight of cultivation managers and driving operational excellence across multiple locations. Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee cultivation operations across facilities
  • Directly manage three cultivation managers and indirectly lead a team of 60+ employees.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, innovation, and collaboration within the cultivation team.
  • Provide strategic vision and motivation to ensure operational goals are met.
  • Develop and implement strategies to optimize yields, reduce costs, and improve efficiency.
  • Monitor and manage environmental controls, irrigation systems, and HVAC systems to ensure optimal plant growth conditions.
  • Engage in day-to-day operations, reviewing data, identifying issues, and collaborating on resolutions.
  • Drive a 30-35% increase in production at the Illinois facility, targeting annual yields of 15-16 million grams.
  • Oversee greenhouse, indoor, and outdoor cultivation practices, ensuring the full potential of existing infrastructure is realized.
  • Ensure all cultivation practices adhere to state and local cannabis regulations in Illinois and Missouri.
  • Track and report key performance indicators (KPIs) to executive leadership during weekly operations meetings.
  • Lead initiatives in breeding, genetics, and research to develop innovative strains and product lines.
  • Stay at the forefront of industry trends, sourcing genetics and best practices to maintain competitive advantage.
  • Leverage a robust industry network to identify emerging technologies, trends, and best practices.
  • Collaborate with national and global experts to continuously refine cultivation methodologies.

Required Skills & Qualifications

Experience

  • 7+ years of experience in large-scale cannabis cultivation, with a focus on greenhouse environments.
  • Proven ability to scale production, manage large teams, and drive operational efficiencies.
  • Expertise in greenhouse cultivation practices, including:
  • Environmental controls.
  • Irrigation systems.
  • HVAC operations.
  • Familiarity with cultivation technologies such as Metrc, PowerApps, or similar systems.
  • Strong leadership and management skills with a history of building and guiding high-performing teams.
  • Exceptional ability to communicate a vision and inspire teams to achieve shared goals.
  • Deep understanding of state cannabis regulations in Illinois and Missouri.
  • Experience ensuring compliance with all operational and reporting requirements.

    Preferred Skills & Attributes

    • Familiarity with breeding and genetic research in cannabis cultivation.
    • Established industry network for sourcing strains, genetics, and cultivation innovations.

    Work Schedule & Location

    • Work Model: Hybrid/Onsite – travel required
    • Work Hours: Monday – Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM CST.
    • Travel Requirement: Regular travel to cultivation sites

    Contract Details

    • Employment Type: Full-time.
    • Salary Range: $100,000 ~ based on experience and market standards.
